On 25 September 2015, at the United Nations (UN) meeting, 193 world leaders committed to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It includes a set of 17 universally applicable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that set the target for action for the next 15 years. These SDGs seek to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice and tackle climate change, ensuring prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.
Of these 17 goals, there is one that interests us in the framework of the Latin American Journal on Inclusive Education: SDG 4. It is formulated in the following terms: ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’ and the coordination of its achievement is entrusted to UNESCO1. It has two preferred target populations: on the one hand, sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia; and, on the other hand, vulnerable people such as people with disabilities, indigenous peoples, refugee children and those in rural poverty.
