Abstract

The Latin-American countries have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2008), just as the Inter-American Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (2001) and implemented their principles legally. This article summarizes the observations and recommendations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child in what refers to the education of persons with disabilities. Important advances can be observed in lawmaking’s that contrast with the discrimination which still exists in many countries.

Luis Mª Naya Garmendia, Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU)

Profesor titular del Departamento de Teoría e Historia de la Educación de la Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, donde imparte Educación Comparada. Ha sido secretario de la Sociedad Española de Educación Comparada de 2002 a 2006. Ha publicado y coordinado diversos libros y artículos, entre los que destacan “La Educación y los Derechos Humanos” y “El Derecho a la Educación en un mundo globalizado”. Es miembro del Grupo de Estudios Históricos y Comparados en Educación Garaian, reconocido por el Gobierno Vasco con el número IT 298/10.

Asier Lauzurika Arrondo, Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU)

Becario predoctoral del Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia y miembro del Grupo de Estudios Históricos y Comparados en Educación Garaian, reconocido por el Gobierno Vasco con el número IT 298/10. En este momento está realizando su tesis doctoral sobre el derecho a la educación de los pueblos originarios. Ha publicado diversos artículos sobre la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño.
