Abstract

CERMI assumes in Spain the role of independent mechanism to monitor the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities in accordance with Article 33.2. This article describes activities of individual and collective defense undertaken in the performance of these functions, which include strategic litigation cases and violation of individual rights. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of these activities provides a current view of the situation in Spain regarding the rights of people with disabilities and in particular regarding article 19 about the right to independent living.

Delegada de Derechos Humanos y para la Convención de la ONU del Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con Discapacidad, CERMI. Responsable del área de Derechos Humanos y Discapacidad, dirección y coordinación de las actividades relacionadas con las competencias del CERMI como Organismo independiente de seguimiento de la aplicación de la Convención sobre los Derechos humanos de las personas con discapacidad en España. Coordinadora de Empleo y Formación de la Confederación Empresarial Española de Economía Social, CEPES. Fundación ONCE para la integración social de las personas con discapacidad. Entre 2005 y 1999 ocupa el cargo de técnico de la Dirección de Relaciones Sociales e Internacionales y posteriormente como miembro del Gabinete del Director General.
