About the Journal
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Latin American Journal of Inclusive Education is an open access journal edited by the Center for Development and Innovation in Inclusive Education of the Central University of Chile in collaboration with the Ibero-American Research Network on School Change and Effectiveness, RINACE. All content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution.
Since 2007, Latin American Journal of Inclusive Education has published articles referring to studies, research projects, proposals, experiences and reflections related to inclusive education. Currently, 2 issues a year are published in digital format in the months of July and December. Only unpublished works are accepted and works in the process of publication in other journals are not accepted. The articles submitted must comply with the publication standards and, in the case of monographic issues, the delivery dates.
All articles are submitted to a first review by the editorial committee. If accepted, they are sent for double blind peer evaluation. This considers: the relevance of the topic; the quality and solidity of the theoretical framework; the relevance of the approach and methodological rigor of the work; the contribution to innovation and advances in perspectives in terms of inclusive education; the implications of the findings obtained for policy, culture, and educational practice; the clarity of the writing and the appropriateness of the structure of the article; and the relevance and timeliness of the bibliographic sources, in accordance with the evaluation criteria. Special attention must be paid to the use of inclusive and non-discriminatory language. It is recommended to consult the following document on Suggestions for writing a good scientific article in Education.
AIM AND SCOPE
The main objectives of the journal are:
- To create a space for dialogue and academic reflection on the major dilemmas and challenges posed by inclusive education in the areas of policy, culture, and educational practices.
- To collect and disseminate studies, research, programs, and innovative experiences that contribute to the knowledge and development of schools that welcome and respond to the diverse characteristics and needs of students and their sociocultural contexts.
- To promote proposals and strategies aimed at improving the quality and equity of education systems, with special attention to the most vulnerable sectors and groups.
EDITORIAL AND ARBITRATION PROCESS
All articles submitted to the journal for eventual publication are subject to a double-blind review process. The priority for the assignment of external reviewers depends strictly on the date of receipt of the article. The evaluation process considers that:
- The selection of external reviewers is carried out according to standards and principles based on both their qualifications and the quality of their scientific output.
- The articles are evaluated by experts in the subject or discipline addressed by the work in accordance with previously established evaluation criteria.
- The review process is completely anonymous for both authors and reviewers. The articles and their reviews are treated confidentially.
- The reviewers consider, among their evaluation criteria, respect for the essential ethical principles in scientific research.
- The judgments expressed in the reviews must be objective.
- Both authors and reviewers must disclose the relationships and sources of funding that may generate potential conflicts of interest.
- The result of the opinion is communicated in writing to the main author of the article, indicating acceptance with or without corrections, or inadmissibility of the article.
- In the appropriate cases, observations and suggestions for improvement are sent, specifying the deadlines for delivery of the corrections requested for final review.
- The editorial committee has the responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article based on the results of external reviews. Only articles that have certain evidence of compliance with editorial standards are accepted.
- The editor of the journal has the power to publish, in collaboration with the Ibero-American Research Network on School Change and Effectiveness RINACE, the accepted article in electronic version, which is communicated to the author, indicating location information: volume and number of the publication, free thematic section or monograph of the journal.
SPECIAL ISSUES
Extraordinary publications follow the journal's editorial line and adhere to the same publication standards as regular issues and the quality criteria of open access scientific publications. The editor-in-chief, who is responsible for the content of the entire journal, including special issues, selects the guest editors and verifies and approves their credentials. Accepted articles are the result of a blind peer review process carried out by external reviewers, following the same selection procedures as regular issues and safeguarding the criterion of endogamy.
PUBLICACTION ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
The code of ethics for the journal's authors, reviewers and editors follows the basic practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Along these lines, all works must be free of plagiarism or scientific fraud, as expressed in a non-exhaustive manner below:
- Plagiarism: literal unquoted copy without citing the source; substantial copy (research materials, processes, tables ...); paraphrasing or reproducing ideas without citing the source and/or changing the original meaning; reusing and sending already published own texts without indicating the source and abusive paraphrasing even citing the source.
- Scientific fraud: non-acknowledgment of all researchers participating in the work preparation, simultaneous sending to several publishers, division of the work in different parts that share the same hypothesis, population and methods, as well as the use of false or unproven data. Finally, when submitting work, authors should declare to the journal the potential conflicts of interest.
As mentioned above, authors must sign a statement of responsibility for authorship and, if applicable, indicate whether they have any type of relationship with a financial, economic, personal or any other group that directly or indirectly affects the content of the submitted article.
External peer reviewers must disclose the existence of conflicts of interest or alleged scientific fraud when evaluating an article.
For its part, the editorial committee will disclose, where appropriate, any relationships or sources of funding that may potentially be considered as conflicts of interest with respect to the articles it rejects or accepts, as well as any alleged scientific fraud it may detect.
APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS
To request reconsideration of a rejected manuscript or to file a complaint regarding the journal's publication processes or ethics, please send an email to inclusiva@ucentral.cl, including the article title, author information, and a description of the case. The journal's editor will review the case, and the final decision on appeals and complaints will rest with the editorial team.
CORRECTIONS IN POSTPRINT
To safeguard the integrity of scholarly work, post-publication (postprint) discussions, corrections, and retractions will be evaluated by the editorial team according to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In the case of errors or corrections made after publication, a note linked to the original article will be issued detailing the identified error and its corresponding correction. When a retraction is requested by the authors, an explanatory note will be published outlining the reasons for this decision. If an article is found to be defamatory or violate the journal's ethical publication standards, its metadata will be retained, and the text will be replaced with a document stating that the article has been withdrawn for legal reasons.

RLEI provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle that offer the public free access to research support to a greater global exchange of knowledge. The submissions, editing or publication process of the manuscript involves no cost to the authors.
