nclusive education is a process in full swing in many countries. It is a path that involves great tensions, fears and contradictions, which in particular seem to deepen when inclusion refers to gender and sexual diversity. These fears and tensions often find their points of support in the understandings held by the various actors in the socio-cultural world with regard to what the subject is and what is appropriate and desirable for their being.
In recent years, the discussion on the impact of educational processes on the construction and affirmation of gender and sexual identity and, consequently, on the role of the school institution in the promotion and development of coexistence based on recognition and appreciation among those who walk different paths in the construction of gender and sexual identity has been gaining ground both in the public sphere and in educational circles. However, this does not mean that the construction of non-hegemonic gender and sexual identities is on the way to acceptance within the framework of what is considered ‘normal’ in our cultural world. Nor does it mean that in the educational context the coexistence between people with diverse identities, from the perspective of gender or sex, is simple or without contradictions, nor easy for educational communities to deal with.
