Special education in Argentina. Inclusive education´s challenges
Keywords:
Special education, Disability, Educational integration, Inclusive educationAbstract
This paper describes the evolution of special education in Argentina and addresses the challenges faced by the country in satisfying the needs of diverse students, focusing on those with disabilities, in order to provide quality education for all children. The conceptual scheme is based on Lani Florian´s work (2010), which analyzes some of the questionings about special education, considering its stigmatizing and segregating character, and identifies many challenges to achieving inclusive education. The study aims to examine the progress and future paths to ensure that the students could be recognized and appreciated, and receive good quality education proposals, in order to participate in our society in equal terms, discovering “the new worlds” that the school, as a cultural institution, has the duty to teach.
