It is practically impossible in these difficult times to abstract from the situation that monopolises all our daily thoughts and actions and not dedicate this brief reflection to the Coronavirus and its effects on the education of the most vulnerable. On both sides of the pond, we are living in a state of emergency, which means confinement to our homes and, with it, the suspension of all face-to-face educational activities. And it is also very difficult to write anything that has a minimum of permanence over time. If we have learnt anything during this period, it is the provisional nature of everything: what was valid yesterday is not valid today, and who knows if it will be tomorrow. For this reason, many of these letters highlighted in black on white will surely be stale by the time the magazine sees the light of day in the face of the devastating spread of the pandemic on a global scale. But this feeling of tentativeness does not prevent us from sitting down to write.
