Abstract

Education is currently unable to contribute to overcoming inequalities or reducing the social gap, for which reason it is necessary to make greater efforts to transform it into driver for social equity. The inclusion movement has emerged forcefully in recent years and aims to tackle the high rates of exclusion and discrimination, and the educational inequalities present in the majority of educational systems around the world.

The inclusion perspective demands that we make progress towards a single educational system that is more diversifi ed in order to adequately provide for the needs of different groups and persons, and achieve quality learning and equity for the whole population. This would require closing the current gap that exists between education for all and education for those who for varying reasons are considered “different”.
